Occupations were assigned to respondents in government-run censuses from Canada (1881), Great Britain (1881), Norway (1900), and the United States (1880).

The NAPP scheme is based on HISCO but has fewer codes -- about 650, instead of 1881, and there are new categories, mostly groups, and some respondents have been moved between groups."
